The Ukrainian metal products market demonstrates a significant increase in consumption in January 2025, compared to the same period last year. According to the Ukrmetallurgprom Joint Stock Company, consumption of rolled products and semi-finished products increased by 115.6% - to 297.1 thousand tons.Imports of metal products increased by 27.1% compared to January 2024, reaching 103 thousand tons, which is more than 34% of total domestic consumption. The import structure is dominated by flat rolled products (86.5%), which indicates stable demand for this type of product.Ukrainian metallurgists increased the production of rolled products by 7.2% - to 430.8 thousand tons, however, export shipments decreased by 28.5%, amounting to 286.1 thousand tons. Instead, the domestic market received 194.1 thousand tons of metal products, which is 550% more than a year ago. The share of exports in the total volume of manufactured products decreased from 88.4% to 59.6%.The main export markets for Ukrainian rolled metal in January 2025 remain the EU countries (69.6%), other European countries (12.4%) and Africa (7.7%). At the same time, the main importers of metal products became other European countries (61.3%), the EU (24.7%) and Asian countries (13.8%).Overall, in 2024, the consumption of metal products in Ukraine decreased by 6.26%, however, both import deliveries (+10.2%) and export shipments (+39.7%) increased, which indicates a change in the balance between the domestic and foreign markets.
