Global rebar market in May 2025: weak demand and local exceptions

In May 2025, the global rebar market remained under pressure. Most regions recorded low demand, a seasonal slowdown in construction activity and price pressure. Only Turkey and China showed slight growth, but the overall dynamics remained weak, agronews.ua reports. In Turkey, rebar prices increased by 2.4%, to $550.6/t FOB, but domestic demand remained sluggish, and exports were limited by political and logistical factors. In the EU, prices continued to decline: in Italy - by 8%, in Northern Europe - by 0.8%, against the backdrop of falling scrap prices and weak construction activity. In the US, quotes fell by 1.9%, to $765/t, for the first time in the last two months. The reason is excess stocks, weak demand and expectations of tariff changes. At the same time, prices in China increased by only 0.2% due to seasonal decline in demand and accumulation of stocks. The market remained unstable, and the outlook for June is restrained - participants expect a slight price correction due to weak demand and high production costs.
