Ukrzaliznytsia successfully held 7 scrap auctions

The total volume of sold raw materials is 1.66 thousand tons, and the value of the transactions is 12.96 million UAH. At the same time, the initial value of these lots was 11.85 million UAH, increasing by 1.1 million UAH during the auction. The average cost of a ton of raw materials according to the auction results is estimated at 7.79 thousand UAH, while, depending on the lot, prices range from 6 thousand UAH/t to 9 thousand UAH/t.Among the winners are “Zakhidtechnomedbud” (3 lots with a total value of 5.65 million UAH), “Lion Agro” (2 lots – 4.15 million UAH), “NDMZ” (1 lot – 1.24 million UAH), “Ukrpobutbrukht” (1 lot – 1.92 million UAH).

The most expensive type of scrap was railway wheel axles (Type 3) – bids per ton of raw material reached UAH 8.95-9 thousand. In total, the series of auctions scheduled for June 5, 2025, provided for the sale of 33 lots of scrap. However, most of the auctions could not be held due to an insufficient number of participants. This is the second time that UZ is trying to hold these auctions, but participants are not encouraged to participate, probably due to the inflated price. In particular, the last auctions in 2023, after which there was a long break in trading on the part of UZ, were held at a price of UAH 5.1-6.5 thousand/t (UAH 6.35 thousand/t on average from 53 lots).

Thus, the most valuable type of scrap (Type 3) has become more expensive by more than UAH 2 thousand/t.As GMK Center reported, Ukrzaliznytsia resumed scrap metal trading on May 16 of this year. Prior to that, raw material sales had not taken place since September 2023. In the first 9 months of that year, the railway operator sold only 76.4 thousand tons of scrap metal, while in 2022 it sold 113 thousand tons, compared to the planned 170 thousand tons.
