The Institute of Fisheries, Marine Ecology and Oceanography has received the latest scientific equipment, financed by the European Union through the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). This is an important step for the development of Ukrainian science in the field of fisheries and the practical strengthening of the country's scientific base.
The updated technical base allows for the restoration of full-fledged field expeditions and the introduction of modern approaches to the management of fish resources. High-quality scientific research is a necessary condition for effective control of the state of aquatic bioresources and the determination of permissible catch volumes without harm to ecosystems, which has both economic and environmental significance. The list of transferred equipment includes two research boats with motors and trailers, designed for expeditions on water bodies, in particular on large water areas. The institute also received two cars for operational trips to research sites.
Sets of modern water analyzers and microscopes will allow conducting ecological research directly on site, which speeds up obtaining accurate results and increases the efficiency of scientific work.International support is of strategic importance for reforming the Ukrainian fisheries sector and bringing it closer to European standards of sustainable development and responsible use of natural resources. Thanks to the new equipment, scientists will be able to regularly monitor fish populations, the state of their habitats and the general ecological situation in water bodies. The collected data will become the basis for scientifically substantiated establishment of fish catch quotas in accordance with European practices of bioresource management.
