European integration: the third phase of EU projects to support small farming has started

The third phase of the EU projects is being launched in Ukraine - "Support for bringing Ukrainian legislation, policies and institutions into line with the acquis in the field of agricultural and rural development" (IPRSA III - EU4SmallFarms) and "Improving legislation, control and awareness in the field of food safety" (ILCA III - EU4SaferFood).
It is noted that the new phase of cooperation provides for over 12 million euros in support for the development of small-scale farming, rural areas and the further implementation of reforms in the field of food safety.
It is reported that the new phase of projects has a clear practical objective - to help Ukraine more quickly bring its legislation, state services and daily work of the agricultural sector closer to EU standards. The projects are financed under the Ukraine Facility and are part of a broader partnership between Ukraine and the European Union on the path to EU membership and integration into the EU internal market.
The practical implementation of the new phase of support includes two separate but interrelated areas. The first of them - the EU4SmallFarms project with a budget of 7.5 million euros will help Ukraine adapt legislation in accordance with the Common Agricultural Policy and EU standards, as well as strengthen support for small and family farms in accordance with the European principles of rural development.
In addition, the second area - the EU4SaferFood project with a budget of 5.4 million euros focuses on those areas that directly affect the safety of Ukrainian food products, trust in them and their compliance with EU standards. Its key tasks are the transformation of the State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection, updating legislation and practices in the areas of animal health and welfare, as well as phytosanitary. In addition, the development of E-food and PHIS systems, improving animal identification and registration, as well as continuous training of specialists.
It is also noted that both projects will last 40 months and will be implemented in close cooperation with the Ministry of Economy, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the State Service for Food and Consumer Protection, the State Forestry Agency and the State Fisheries Agency. For Ukraine, this means not only technical assistance, but also systemic changes that should strengthen the agricultural sector, strengthen rural areas and bring Ukrainian products closer to the standards of the single European market.
