Ukraine and Spain launch joint infrastructure project

Ukraine and Spain have signed agreements to launch a joint infrastructure project that will allow freight trains to cross the EU border faster.
The project involves developing technology that will allow trains to automatically change track width. This means faster border crossings, lower costs, and greater capacity.
The project is being implemented by Ukrzaliznytsia together with the Spanish engineering company TRIA and the Spanish national infrastructure operator Adif.
The project is being funded by a grant of 5.48 million euros, provided by the Spanish government through the state financial institution Instituto de Crédito Oficial (ICO) within the FIEM fund.
This is the first infrastructure project of Ukrzaliznytsia, implemented within the framework of agreements between Volodymyr Zelensky and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez for 200 million euros.
