EU allocates grants to finance transport infrastructure under CEF

The European Commission has awarded grant agreements to finance infrastructure projects in Poland, Slovakia, Romania, Ukraine and Moldova under the Connecting Europe Facility. The support package aims to develop cross-border routes and strengthen the Solidarity Routes between the EU and Ukraine.Among the key decisions is the allocation of €73.5 million for the construction of a European track line connecting Poland and Lviv.

Polish projects will receive the largest amount of funds - almost €452 million. They include work on the Rail Baltica mainline, the development of the Mykołów - Czech border connection, the implementation of the ETCS system on the TEN-T network and the expansion of the fairway to the ports of Świnoujście, Szczecin and Police. Slovakia will finance four projects worth €135 million to improve connections with Eastern Slovakia, Ukraine and the Czech Republic.Romania will receive €45 million for the development of a railway corridor from Constanta and Bucharest to the borders with Ukraine and Moldova. Another €33 million is earmarked for a joint Romanian-Moldovan project to modernise and electrify the Iasi-Ungheni section.In July, the European Commission selected 94 infrastructure initiatives that will receive a total of almost €2.8 billion in funding under the CEF.
