World food imports to hit record $2.22 trillion in 2025 – FAO

World food imports could hit a record $2.22 trillion in 2025, up nearly 8% from a year earlier, according to a November report by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). The growth is the second consecutive year after a slight decline in 2023, suggesting a recovery in the global market. One of the key trends will be a sharp increase in imports of beverages and spices. Coffee, tea, cocoa and spices could grow by 34.5% to $65.2 billion, the highest annual growth rate in more than a decade

.A significant increase in purchases of dairy products is also expected - by 16.4% (20.9 billion dollars), as well as vegetable oils and fats - by 10.6% (16.7 billion dollars). At the same time, grain imports are forecast to decrease by approximately 3% (by 9.3 billion dollars), and sugar purchases - by almost 9% (by 7.3 billion dollars). The FAO calls the main reason for this the decline in the price of products on world markets.
