Ukraine's GDP grew by 8% in August: which sector had the greatest growth

In August 2025, Ukraine's real GDP grew by 8% year-on-year. After a July decline in indicators against the backdrop of a failure in the agricultural sector, the economy recovered sharply thanks to a strong harvest and stable domestic demand. This is evidenced by data from the Institute of Economic Research and Policy Consulting The key factor for agriculture was a record grain harvest. Production in the agricultural sector increased by 37%, which led to a sharp turnaround after the July minus.

Wheat in August was harvested 3.5 times more than a year ago, and barley - twice as much. Thus, agriculture returned to the status of the main driver of the national economy. However, it was not only agriculture that grew. Other sectors also showed success: Manufacturing increased by 6%, which was the result of the recovery of the food industry and procurement for the defense sector.

Trade maintained positive dynamics at 3% - this was facilitated by stable wages, social payments and income growth due to labor shortages. Energy showed a growth of 10%, recovering from last year's large-scale outages. At the same time, not all sectors entered a positive trajectory. The mining industry decreased by 7% due to the loss of mines, although the situation was partially mitigated by demand for construction materials. Transport also sank by almost 10%. This is due to the virtual cessation of gas transit, disruptions in oil supplies and a reduction in freight traffic on the railways.
