Researchers at the University of Sydney have made a discovery that could transform approaches to treating heart disease. They have obtained the first evidence that human heart muscle cells can regenerate after a heart attack.
Previously, it was believed that damaged heart tissue had virtually no capacity for repair. The new study has revealed that a natural regeneration mechanism does, in fact, exist within the body.
