A separate museum dedicated to the outstanding Ukrainian artist, People's Artist of Ukraine Ivan Marchuk is planned to be created in Kyiv. This was announced by the organizers of the exhibition project "Ivan Marchuk. Museum Collections"
The idea of creating a full-fledged museum space to preserve and popularize the artist's creative heritage has been discussed for several years. Back in 2022, it was planned to transfer the former US Embassy building on Volodymyr Vynnychenko Street to the Ministry of Culture to create a museum and cultural center for contemporary art by Ivan Marchuk.
The new museum should become a place where the artist's work from different periods will be presented. Ivan Marchuk is the author of more than 5 thousand works and the creator of a unique artistic technique called "plantanism". In 2026, the artist turned 90 years old.
The first important step towards creating a separate museum space was the permanent exhibition "Ivan Marchuk. Museum Collections”, which opened in May 2026 at the Chocolate House Art Center. The exhibition brought together the artist’s works from 11 museum collections in Kyiv, Lviv, Sumy, Lutsk, Ivano-Frankivsk and Kanev.
The capital also hosted a large-scale anniversary exhibition “I Shaken This World”, dedicated to Marchuk’s 90th anniversary. It brought together almost 250 works by the artist and presented his creative path from early works to iconic artistic cycles.
The creation of a separate Ivan Marchuk museum could become an important cultural project for Kyiv and Ukraine. Such a space would allow for the systematic preservation of the artist’s artistic heritage, holding exhibitions, educational events and introducing his work to the Ukrainian and international audience.
At the same time, we are currently talking about plans to create a separate museum. The specific opening dates and final location of the future institution require further organizational decisions.
