Accuracy up to 99.99%: a seed factory with artificial intelligence has started operating in Volyn

Agroholding "Volyn-Zerno-Product" (TM "Vilia") on Friday, June 26, opened a seed factory in the village of Zvynyache, Lutsk district, Volyn region. This was reported by Perry, which acted as the supplier of equipment.

According to the company, the enterprise was created to fully meet the holding's domestic needs with high-quality seed material and minimize dependence on imports. Thanks to a strategic partnership with equipment manufacturers Perry (Great Britain) and Westrup (Denmark), the plant has become a leader in Ukraine in terms of automation and implementation of the latest agricultural technologies.

The line capacity is up to 12 tons/hour. The complex is implemented using Perry equipment and the Danish manufacturer Westrup and covers the full cycle of seed preparation: acceptance, preliminary and fine cleaning, calibration, gravitational and optical separation, pickling, drying and shipping. The level of automation allows you to simultaneously perform up to six technological operations in continuous mode. The compliance of the finished product with the specified characteristics of purity, size, color and weight of a thousand seeds reaches 99.99%. The plant will work with wheat, soybeans, barley, peas and other crops.

How an artificial intelligence seed plant line works

The line is designed to work with a wide range of crops (wheat, soybeans, barley, peas) and provides a standard uniformity of the finished product - up to 99.99%. The main factors of this quality are in the complex multi-stage technological route:

  • Calibration with AI: a gravity separator selects the most viable grains using a programmable controller with artificial intelligence elements.
  • Optical sorting: final control is carried out by a Japanese Satake photoseparator with multi-spectral cameras and AI support.
  • Pharmacy pickling: automatic dosing of chemicals guarantees uniform coating of each seed without overspending.
  • Drying without heating: seeds are dried with room temperature air, which completely prevents thermal stress for the embryo.

Why seeds at the VILIYA plant are not transported like regular grain.

In short: a seed plant is fundamentally different from a classic elevator, since seeds are critically sensitive to mechanical damage. A conventional conveyor or high-speed elevator inevitably injures the embryo, which reduces germination and the company suffers direct losses in the field.

That is why all the plant's transport equipment is made to a special seed standard. The speed of the belts is significantly reduced (the grain lies motionless on them), and the design of the conveyors provides complete self-cleaning. This guarantees that different varieties will never mix with each other.

How Perry equipment preserves seed quality.

According to Perry’s regional manager in Ukraine, Roman Belikov, a mistake in choosing equipment for a seed factory costs field germination, and therefore the future harvest. For his part, the head of the British company, David Perry, emphasizes the main engineering rule: “In seed production, the task of transportation is not simply to move the material, but to preserve its biological potential.”
