Mostyska Dry Port Terminal (Mostyska Container Terminal) shipped a record 65 trainloads of products per month this year. This is the largest figure in the facility’s four-year history, writes RAIL.insider.
According to experts, this may be a record for terminals of this type throughout Ukraine.
Mostyska Dry Port Terminal General Director Dmytro Kobzar noted that the terminal’s equipment allows loading one train in 12 hours, that is, up to two trains per day, but the full cycle is longer due to logistics.
“In 24 hours, we can fully receive a train at the station, load it and return it back to the station. That is why the entire process – from receiving the train to its departure – takes about 24 hours,” explained the terminal’s general director.
He added that Germany remains the main export destination throughout all the years of operation. According to him, almost 95% of product buyers are companies from this country.
“Railway wagons to Europe go directly to Germany through Poland, while ship consignments are delivered to the ports of Gdansk and Gdynia for loading onto a ship. Containers always go to the port, since this type of transportation is focused on sea transport. Regardless of where the loading takes place - at an elevator or in a warehouse, the final destination for the container remains the port,” Kobzar emphasized.
According to Ivan Yemets, the director of the terminal network development of Levada Cargo (which includes the Mostyska Container Terminal), if in 2022 container transportation formed only 2.3% of Ukrzaliznytsia’s cargo turnover, then according to the results of the first quarter of 2026 their share reached 4.1% (and this is even when the total railway cargo turnover decreased by 4%).
"At the same time, the basis of container transportation remains agricultural cargo: 38% is grain, another 7% is oilseeds and meal. In the first quarter, container transportation increased by 8%, exports through the western border by 29%, and imports by 64%," the specialist added.
It is noted that in the first quarter of 2026, the terminal's share in processing export-import container flows through the western border increased from 21.3 to 30.3%.
