On Monday, July 6, 2026, the first annual auctions for the allocation of combined capacity at interstate interconnection points with Hungary, Romania and Moldova will be held, GTS Operator of Ukraine LLC reported on its website.
The GTS explained that combined capacity products allow booking capacity on both sides of the interstate interconnection point within the framework of a single auction and a single capacity product.
“The implementation of the combined capacity mechanism is the result of close coordination between the GTS, operators of adjacent gas transportation systems, national regulators and European institutions,” said the acting general director of the company, Natalia Boyko.
The company claims that the introduction of bundled capacity products will contribute to the further integration of the Ukrainian natural gas market into the EU internal market, increase the efficiency of the use of interstate infrastructure, develop cross-border natural gas trade, and strengthen the energy security of the region.
The acceptance of applications for the allocation of annual capacity at internal entry and exit points will continue from June 29, 2026 and will end on July 13, 2026 inclusive.
As reported, the National Commission for State Regulation of Energy and Utilities (NCRECU) at its meeting on June 23 adopted decisions aimed at further integrating the Ukrainian gas market into the EU single natural gas market.
“The changes provide for the introduction of European rules for capacity allocation and tariff formation on interstate connections of the gas transportation system,” the regulator reported.
In particular, the regulator has completed regulatory steps to introduce joint auctions for the allocation of capacity of interstate connections.
“Such a mechanism provides for the simultaneous allocation of capacity of the gas transportation system of Ukraine and neighboring countries, which corresponds to European practice in the functioning of the natural gas market,” the commission explained.
The new rules for the allocation of capacity of interstate connections have been in effect since July 2026 and will apply to the capacity that will be used from the beginning of the new gas year – from October 1, 2026.
To participate in the auctions, customers of transportation services must conclude contracts not only with the OGTSU, but also with operators of adjacent gas transportation systems of the EU Member States and the Republic of Moldova. The customer to whom the combined capacity will be allocated will have the right to transfer to another customer the right to submit nominations and re-nominations for such capacity.
