Payment giant Visa has announced a series of new digital wallet launches in Europe and is preparing a pilot project for early 2026. The company’s activation comes after important regulatory changes under the Digital Markets Act (DMA), which for the first time allowed third-party wallets to use NFC technology.According to Visa research, mobile payments already account for 59% of all online transactions in Europe, and by 2030 their share could grow to 75%. Also, 32% of Europeans said they plan to fully switch to mobile wallets for everyday purchases.
Among the new projects from Visa:
the BBVA Pay digital wallet in Spain, integrated with the Visa Token Service;
a tap-to-pay service for iOS and Android, launched in partnership with Klarna;
a wallet with Vipps Mobile Pay, operating in the Nordic countries.
Separately, Visa is preparing a pilot for 2026, which should ensure the possibility of using the Italian Bancomat payment scheme outside Italy.
