Ukraine is nearing the end of the application process for the first lithium Production Sharing Agreement (PSA) at the Dobra site, a project that could be a historic step for the development of the national critical minerals industry. According to Deputy Minister of Economy Yegor Perelygin, the application process will continue until December 12, after which a new stage in attracting investments in lithium mining and processing will begin.
Over the past five years, lithium has transformed from a material for narrow technological applications into a key resource for the global energy infrastructure. Analysts predict a rapid growth in global demand: from 205 thousand tons in 2024 to over 928 thousand tons by 2040. The main drivers are the development of electromobility and modern energy storage systems.Ukraine has all the prerequisites to take a worthy place in the global lithium market and create one of the most effective examples of the development of critical minerals. The government is also considering the possibility of attracting financing for lithium projects through the American-Ukrainian Reconstruction Investment Fund. The combination of a resource base, modern technologies, investments and quick management decisions can significantly strengthen Ukraine's position in the global supply chain of critical minerals and support the transformation of the world's energy system.
