Gemini has officially surpassed 1 billion monthly active users. This is the 14th Google product to reach this milestone — but the AI assistant has done it faster than any of its predecessors.Back in late July, Google reported 950 million Gemini users, so it actually took the service just a month to add about 50 million more and surpass the billion mark.In announcing the record, the company also revealed some details about how the service is being used. Among the most interesting:Gemini generates more than 150 million images every day;63% of users interact with the AI directly by voice, rather than just typing in text;
20% of people who use Gemini Live broadcast images from their camera and screen to the AI to get help.
Almost every Android smartphone in the world now comes with the Gemini app or other features that encourage users to use AI. However, over 100 million active Gemini users are on iOS, where they have to manually download the app – in addition to or instead of ChatGPT or Claude.Gemini’s billion-strong audience is especially important in the context of Google’s competition with OpenAI.
